What is Trauma-Informed Yoga?

Trauma is not what happens to us. Trauma is what happens inside of us as a result of what happens to us. Painful emotions, fears and wounds can become energetically trapped within our bodies, often lingering and manifesting long after initial experience. Trauma-informed yoga honors the nuances of being human, encouraging students to show up as they are, with the understanding that all emotions and experiences are valid and welcome. We can embrace every sensation from the body and all external experiences with kindness, curiosity, and compassionate inquiry.

Research shows that embodiment practices, such as yoga, are the most effective approach to healing trauma. By fostering a supportive space where students can explore their experiences without resistance, shame, or judgment, we empower them to reconnect with their authentic selves. Yoga asana guides individuals in accessing their emotional bodies, helping release blockages and stagnant energy. Each person’s journey through this process is unique, unfolding in their own time and way.
